Amadeus

THE LIFE OF A FAMOUS CHAMPION

If there is a horse with greater popularity, greater prestige and with a career full of prizes in the Colombian and international Paso Fino horses guild, that is without doubt Amadeus; the black stallion which alludes the famous composer with the harmony, calibration and loudness of his steps, his beauty and his long existence characterized by memorable titles.

amadeus-viviana1.jpg Although I have not been close to him, I could be dazzled in more that one occasion with his phenomenal presentations, where he always imposed his champion condition and his firm personality. It results casual the fact that I have been able to live the same years of Amadeus, nineteen. That’s why I have had the fortune of witnessing a lot of his exhibitions and victories in Colombia.

Amadeus, born a few months before me, his fan, saw light August 10th of 1983, in the green landscapes of the department of Antioquia. Born in the breeding farm of Don Jairo Agudelo, product of the magnificent cross between the famous Resorte IV and the mare Maria Centeno (Mañanero X La Polvora). Two years later the wise and recognized breeder Fabio Ochoa Restrepo acquired and took him to his farm “La Loma”; then, he would give it to his daughter Angela Ochoa, his principal successor of his greater passion for Paso fino horses. She kindly shared with me these anecdotes of his “black” Amadeus, maybe to honor the love she has always felt for such a representative of our Colombian Paso Fino.

Years before Angelita decided to establish her breeding farm under the name of “Agualinda”. Amadeus was taken to the city of Pereira, Risaralda, to the hands of the master Alberto Lozano, responsible for the training of who was soon to be the champion of the Colombian fairs. It was later, 1992, when Amadeus along with the mares La Carmiña and Primicia, came to head the name of “Criadero Agualinda”.

The horse with the most number of titles given for a representative of the Colombian criollo race. For five consecutive years he was declared as the best stallion of Paso Fino in Colombia. Winner of all the titles Fedequinas and his associations give to the representatives of our native horse.

This and a whole lot more is what the name Amadeus says. A stallion that is an example for many of our horses, if we consider his quality of being what I think is a true “saddle horse”. Likewise it results incredible to me that such an honorable horse has passed through the hands of diverse horse dealers as Ricardo Piedrahita, Asnoraldo Rendón, Antonio “Toño” Vélez (who won the majority of the horse victories) and Albeiro Arboleda, who finished the championships cycle of the stallion. Adding the nobleness and docile temperament that has always characterized him.

But Amadeus career can not be define in such simple terms. His championships were the product of great competitions against the best representatives of our Colombian Paso Fino: J.R. Simbolo, Cancionero, Capuchino, Francisco el hombre, Carmin, Terremoto, El Astro and even his own son Atrevido del 8, who he was able to beat only in one opportunity in 1994; taking into consideration that the victory was for the descendent in two past occasions. It was without doubt, that hard labor and effort to impose his quality and dotes, which took him to retire completely from the tracks and saddle due to his strong pains, and let him only to reproductive purposes.

It is there where Amadeus constructs his second grand glory: around 1900 offspring registered in most of the confederated countries to Confepaso, approximately 50 breeds per year and what calls more my attention “Amadeus was responsible of imposing the black colors in the Paso fino pedigree”. That’s what her owner Angelita expresses with pride in honor of her dead father, Don Fabio, and ratifies Dr. Gabriel Jaime Toro, who has also been responsible for the stallion success being his head veterinarian a long his vast existence.

Today this eternal champion that impresses more than one with his beautiful phenotype, this that catches the heart of the great horse lover Angela Ochoa and his recognized veterinarian Gabriel Jaime; the great Amadeus has returned to the beautiful Antioquia´s mountains, that nineteen years ago saw him grow and were witness of his triumphs and victories. All these with the means of enrichening the row of champions that only his bloodline has been able to generate: Patrimonio del 8, Resplandor III, Atrevido del 8, Concierto II del 8, Magnate, la Dominica, la Luciernaga, Martinica, la Polka del Juncal, Atrevida de las Palmas, Incertidumbre, and many more.

And here I am, glad for achieving one of my biggest horses dream: to be near the historical stallion that always has caught all my attention, and near his best friend and owner “tita”. Thanks a lot to her and to Gabriel Jaime for their big contribution to this, my grand life’s passion, for your great help sharing with me these experiences. I hope I can be near people like you and horses like your “negro” Amadeus more times.
